Part 1 - The Order (this page)
Part 2 - Our Code
INTRODUCTION AND ETHICS
The story Of the Dark Octopus is integral to its
politics. To fully understand our politics you must know our
history and our common aspirations. In the hardest of stances we
strive for good fun gaming, camaraderie and in-game adroitness.
In accordance with these values there are no
leaders, as well as every member is a leader.
The worth of brotherhood, to us, greatly outweighs
all other things. Impervious trust is the cornerstone of our
group. New members are accepted based on this concept. One will
need to be both trustworthy and Honorable. Beyond these one must
have selflessness, or the ability to weigh the needs of the group
above one's personal gaming goals.
Once one is accepted he will effectively be part
of the family. As a Dark Octopus member one is heritage to our
legacy. We have gamed for countless years and have considerable
renown in the gaming world. We have partaken in all genres of the
gaming world and enjoy loose alliances with other gaming groups as
well as respect from worthy competitors. Accept that you will be a
caretaker of this renown and strive to further it.
We often find ourselves upholding such values as
honor and order. We do not think ourselves as cast in stone
do-gooders, regardless though we have often been cataloged as
such. Many people misjudge simple humanity as righteousness.
Possibly real world's bitterness does not allow many people to
fathom the possibility of unreserved compassion, sadly even in the
surreal world of gaming. We also play the other side of the coin.
Even downright uncompassionate heartless style of play is
acceptable when the enemy is deserving. Tolerance is the group's
root of longevity. The only thing not tolerated is betrayal.
In the world of gaming, we are all personally free
of the need for rigidness and bureaucracy, but for sake of better
guidelines the rules are as such:
Leadership:
If the need of a leader arises, or the need for a
group spokesman, or whatnot, leadership will be based on these
guidelines, in this order of hierarchy-
- Elected by majority leader In the absence of time for
official elections-
- Task specific ability or experience
- Game Specific Seniority (For new members: game seniority is
counted from date of inception to the group as rank of Lord)
- Group Seniority
- Willingness to lead
- Members turn to lead
There is some order here but each situation, in
each game, may dictate that the order is wrong. Of coarse use your
reason and in the case of argument, just pick the fairest leader,
share leadership or whatever would be most fun.
New Applicants:
- Active player's majority approval of the game one is
applying for membership from.
- All family members of existing members are automatically
accepted as applicants. Family members are the responsibility of
the member who they are related too. Ultimately, if such an
applicant is not playing within the game's group policy, you the
member will have to deal with all the other members' complaints.
New Applicants acceptance as members:
- Unanimous acceptance vote by active members of the game they
have applied from.
- This has been preset from other games to take place one
month after an applicant has been accepted. It never has been
exactly one month, so chase your game administrator to collect
the votes. Votes not received by game administrator from active
game members, by the date he/she has placed as the date of vote
counting, will be regarded as a yes.
Golden Rule: HAVE FUN (if any previous rule gets
in the way of this rule, this one has more authority)
